Fretso for Indian pet businesses: what it does, feature by feature

Every module, what it does, and who in your business would actually use it.

If you’re comparing pet business software, this is the honest walkthrough: what each part does, who uses it, and where it stops.

Fretso runs a pet business off one system. The reason that matters isn’t the feature count, it’s that every part writes to the same customer and the same pet. Your groomer can see the vet’s note. Your boarding staff can see the medication plan. Your desk sees one bill.

The counter

Retail and POS is a till built for a pet shop, not a generic one.

  • Scan or search products and services onto one bill
  • Split payment across cash, card, UPI and a prepaid balance
  • Tax applied per line, so a basket of food at one rate, a medicine at another and an exempt consultation bill correctly
  • Stock drops as you sell
  • Suppliers and purchase orders in the same system
  • Day close with a cash count and a recorded variance

The per-line tax treatment is the part that matters in India. Mixed baskets are the norm in this trade, and blending them into one rate is the most common billing error there is. See the GST guide and the HSN reference.

The diary

Appointments is one calendar across grooming, veterinary, boarding and daycare.

  • A front desk board showing the whole day: expected, arrived, in service, ready, paid
  • Double-booking refused by the software, for staff, rooms and runs
  • Check-in opens the right job automatically
  • Reminders over WhatsApp, SMS or email

One diary is the difference between answering “can you fit us in Saturday?” in five seconds and checking three places.

Grooming

Grooming and Spa works on tickets.

  • Services, groomer, coat condition, behaviour notes
  • Before-and-after photos on the pet’s file
  • “Same as last time” rebuilds a regular’s ticket in one tap
  • Packages sold up front and redeemed session by session
  • Commission accrues automatically when the ticket is invoiced

The commission ledger ends the monthly argument about how many dogs someone did. More on the models in how to pay groomers.

Boarding

Boarding and Daycare puts guardrails where mistakes are expensive.

  • Reservations against a specific run, so nothing can be double-booked
  • Live occupancy, so you know what’s free before turning someone away
  • Vaccination gate at check-in, warning before the animal is in the building
  • Daily care logs, timestamped and attributable
  • Medication plans visible from the vet’s prescription
  • A going-home report card

The vet room

Veterinary sits on the same pet file as everything else.

  • SOAP-structured consultation notes
  • Prescriptions written inside the consult, dispensing off pharmacy stock and onto the bill in one step
  • Vaccination protocols per species, with next-due dates calculated automatically
  • Lab results on the record

Those due dates are what drive recalls all year. See vaccination records and recalls.

Getting paid

Billing and Payments collects everything the business sells.

  • Tax-correct invoices with your branding
  • A working list of who owes what
  • Razorpay and Stripe with your own keys, so money lands in your account
  • Prepaid balances as a real ledger, spendable at any counter
  • Payment links that clear against the invoice by themselves

Your customers

The pet parent portal is a page on their phone, with nothing to install.

  • Their pets and history
  • A digital vaccination card with next-due dates
  • Self-service booking into your real availability
  • Re-ordering from past orders
  • Invoices, and a button to pay

It exists to remove the four calls your desk takes every day.

Keeping people coming back

Engagement and CRM turns predictable demand into revenue.

  • Enquiries converted to customers without retyping
  • Rules for jabs due, grooms due, packages expiring
  • WhatsApp, SMS and email
  • Segments built from your own data
  • An outbox recording every send

Staff

Staff, rota and commission:

  • Each person sees their own day
  • Shift rotas across branches
  • Leave requested and approved in-app, with overlaps refused
  • Working hours the diary respects
  • Commission accrued to a ledger

The numbers

Reports and multi-branch:

  • Every screen scoped to one branch or rolled up
  • Revenue split by service line
  • Daily trend
  • Booking funnel, so you can see where it leaks
  • Low stock and vaccinations due

Setting it up

Setup and control is where you shape it to your business: switch modules on and off, your branding, branches, tax, currency, payment gateways, and seven pre-configured roles.

Turn veterinary off and it leaves the menu and your bill.

What it’s built on

Frappe and ERPNext, both open source. That means real double-entry accounting and real stock control underneath rather than approximations, and your data is exportable. The full list of what it stands on is on the built with page.

Where it stops

Being straight about the limits:

  • It isn’t a diary-only app. If all you need is a booking calendar for one chair, this is more than you need and a calendar is cheaper.
  • It expects setup. Services, prices, tax and roles have to be decided. That’s a week of your attention, and it’s the week that determines whether it works. See getting off spreadsheets.
  • Pricing is quoted, not listed. Because what a one-chair salon needs and what a six-branch resort needs aren’t comparable. Why there’s no price list.
